Wondering what the best restaurants are in Baja to have some typical Mexican food? We've got you covered if you want to know where to eat in La Ventana! I crafted the following list with the top 7 restaurants in El Sargento, so you're set for every day of the week. Make sure you try our favourite suggestion of the menu, and get that special local Baja taste!

Where to eat in La Ventana during the high season

After living here for over four years, I now have my favourite restaurants in La Ventana and on which days you should go and why. The food in this part of Baja California is known for its seafood dishes, and you can't get it any fresher than straight out of the sea. After all, the local fishermen head out to the sea every night to catch the tastiest fish, which lands on your plate that same day.

A restaurant for every day of the week in La Ventana & El Sargento

Food is a big part of the Mexican culture and should not be missed on your list of things to do in La Ventana. So here are my all-time favourite restaurants:

Eat in La Ventana

El Cone on Monday

What to order: Ceviche Especial

Cone is a local fisherman who opened this restaurant many years ago. It remains one of the best places to eat in La Ventana. This is your go-to for seafood! They catch the fish at night, so they can serve it fresh during the day. El Cone is locally owned and a La Ventana classic restaurant.

La Tuna on Tuesday

What to order: Mango Mojito + Curricanes

Dance salsa and drink cocktails at La Tuna on Tuesdays. Enjoy the pleasant live music of Maceo Limonte and let your hips move on Tuesday nights. I love their mango mojito and their food is on-point too!

Las Guacamayas on Wednesday

What to order: 2-for-1 el pastor tacos

For a typical Mexican food experience, you can't miss tacos. The best ones have marinated meat (like el pastor) and are served with a lot of toppings and sauces. This is exactly what you get at the quirky Las Guacamayas and with the Wednesday Taco night you can eat double as much with their 2-for-1 deal!

Polvora on Thursday

What to order: Huevos Arabes + coffee

‘Nough said. This will be your new favourite breakfast place. Polvora has it all: the architecture, the design, the coffee (yep, it’s really the best in La Ventana), the staff, and the food are all incredible. We promise you that you won't be disappointed.

Taqueria el Tecuan on Friday

What to order: Breakfast Carnitas

To begin with, Taquería el Tecuan raises their own pork. Then, they take care of the entire process of slaughter & preparation. Next, they cook it using their grandfather’s recipe from Michoacán. And finally, they end up on your plate and in your belly. These carnitas will make you have you waiting for the next meal – they are that good.

Casa Xolo on Saturday

What to order: the tasting menu
Chef Fabiola’s specialties are meats and seafood. Spoil yourself with their 6 or 7-course meals, revamped weekly! This is one of the few places to eat in La Ventana with gastronomical quality, and it's worth every penny.

Don Manuel on Sunday

What to order: Birria

Birria is a Mexican dish made of meat stew. It’s a hearty breakfast, replacing the typical Sunday Brunch. Don Manuel is one of the best restaurants in El Sargento to savour this meaty soup, but they also have other tasty Mexican options.
