La Ventana’s Monthly Clean-Ups
In April 2023, No Más Basura, Te M’ao, LightSUP, the Art Cart and Agua Salada joined forces and without knowing it, organized the first collective clean-up. A new trend in our little town of El Sargento/La Ventana. The idea is quite simple: to meet once a month to clean an arroyo (riverbed), a beach or a part of town for an hour or two.
The community’s response was overwhelmingly positive, and businesses began to sponsor us. Polvora, Casa Xolo, and ChiloChill only to name a few, have thanked the volunteers by offering them food or a drink. The delegación has been helping with material, and police have been ensuring safety when doing road clean-ups. Everyone lends a helping hand when they can.
A monthly event you don’t want to miss
There’s something truly special about dedicating time during your day to walk in town and pick up styrofoam, plastic, metal, and any other trash that can be found. It is humbling and rewarding to pick up trash because you’re doing this for yourself. Whether you’re visiting, or you live here, it’s very fulfilling to help the community that you’re in and leave this place better than when you found it. It’s also nice to get to know more community members after the clean-ups when we gather at whoever is sponsoring that month’s clean-up for a bite or a drink.

Our mission is to contribute to our beautiful community in a positive and fun way. It gives us so much so often. This is our way of returning the favour.

Since this movement continues to grow, and we are set on keeping it going, it was time to find a name for our group. As a group, we voted and decided on La Windex y El Sargento Fabuloso.
We are a volunteer run project. All donations go directly towards expenses such as gas, trash bags, water, and other materials. In the event of donations exceeding the month’s expenses, we will use the remaining donations for the following month’s clean-up.
