7 Free Things You Can Do in La Ventana

When traveling, I often look for a local feel of the place I am visiting. To me, slow travel means connecting with nature and taking time to feel the magic of a place. We think slow travel is the best way to get to know a location since you will really have the time to soak in everything the area has to offer. And even though some activities here cost money, there are also many things to discover for absolutely free!

Free things to do in La Ventana

The best part about our little town is that many special experiences are completely free things to do in La Ventana:

1· Go Camping

La Ventana has many awesome free camping spots. Look for areas that are away from private property, and a bit further from sensitive ecosystems. Free camping means there are no amenities such as toilets, showers, or potable water. Be prepared to bring your own supplies, including a portable toilet, trash bags, and enough water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.

Respect the environment: As with any camping, it's essential to cut your impact. Follow 'Leave No Trace' principles and take out all your trash. Avoid disturbing the vegetation and wildlife, and use biodegradable soaps and detergents.

2· Bathe in the hot springs

The natural hot springs in La Ventana are a must-visit. The hot water here is known for its therapeutic properties and can help you relax and rejuvenate. You can find the hot springs in the town of El Sargento. Find them here.

3· Hike

The desert area of La Ventana has several hiking trails, including the Cactus Loop Trail and the Punta Gorda Trail. These trails offer stunning views of the landscape, and you can enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Download the TrailForks app to find out about the local trails.

4· Take part in a beach or town clean up

In collaboration with local businesses, we have been organizing monthly clean-ups in town. We meet at a designated location and clean the surroundings for 1–2 hours. Follow us on social media to find out about our next clean-up OR even better, organize your own! I often bring a bag with me when going to the beach, and pick up trash while enjoying my day.

5· Go swimming/snorkeling

La Ventana is surrounded by beautiful beaches, and you can spend your time sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling. Some popular beaches in the area include Playa Central, Las Palmas, and the south beach. Check out our La Ventana beach directory.

6· Stargazing

The clear night skies in La Ventana make it an excellent place for stargazing. You can go stargazing for free from anywhere in the town. I recommend walking down the south beach or going way north, for the best stargazing.

7· Watch the sunsets and/or the full moon rise

La Ventana is known for its stunning sunsets, and you can watch them for free. The best place to watch the sunset is from the beach, where you can watch the colorful sky shine on Cerralvo Island. On a full moon, the moon will rise on the beach as the sun sets. It’s magical!
